Today fate brought me to Paulo’s Auto Shop to have my leaking tire patched.
Who would have known it was next to a glass company with a dumpster full of beautiful windows and doors?
5 hours later the ARC is filled with building supplies to build a greenhouse and anything else we could imagine. Thanks Merav and Matt for coming to the rescue! I would have had no idea what to do with the treasures without your help
A U-haul truck filled with giant sheets of glass, a trip to a neighborhood dump, and a journey to Nancey’s for everything but the cat. That was epic…
The seed donation is coming tomorrow!!! Yay!

I have just returned from a week long trip to South Florida with my brother Day. It was there amongst the Flordian energy that my father explained in so many words that he thought I was a lion who knew his pride. This was a rare moment in my Human life, as my father so rarely shares intimate thoughts, feelings or emotions.
I feel great to be back…Sangjun is in the hizhouse!
{M}{A}{T}{T}{H}{E}{W}
It hasn’t rained for 24 hours straight! the puddles in the back yard terrace actually dried out and the sun came out to warm and cheer us.
Sangjun came by with Josh and they took the bikes with the trailer, not before taking Merav for a ride on the Ducati!!! “It was FUN though a bit intense, but I liked it” She said while proudly showing off the Ducati Leather Jacket Sangjun gave her to wear…
Now we have so much SPACE in the garage- it’s delightful~ (Plus we got an amazing new Washer and Dryer that sings a tune when they end a cycle… what a great way to end a cycle:-)
Towards evening, Kelly took Arnold and Willis out for a walk and learned that a house close by in our neighborhood was on fire! “It was FLAMING” Kelly said… he took photos of it on his cell phone but still needs to figure out how to transfer them…:-)
Plus, Today Rosalie taught the first YOGA class in the ARC. Every Wed. at 6pm, Rain or shine, no matter how many show up. It was great! we did an hour class and it was just the right amount of stretches I needed… Kelly decided that instead of doing Yoga tonight he will watch the president- it was State of the Union address, “It brought a tear to my eye” he said with a smile.
We got to hang out with Ron and his brother Robert tonight, they shared with us great stories and joined us for dinner.
The question of the evening was: What would you do if you won the Lottery?
We all had different answers and it was cool to hear each others dreams…
What would you do if you won the Lottery?
Today was beautiful and sunny here in Montara. It has been raining all week and the storm is finally over. The house, like the land, is going through a cleanse. We are rearranging, reorganizing, and taking out the old to make way for new energy and inspiration.
Today I cleaned the living spaces and cleansed the front yard of invasive scotch broom. We cut up the old christmas trees for firewood, and the garage also got a good cleaning thanks to Kelly and our guest Josh.
There is now a temporary greenhouse on the back porch and I just heard back from our seed donation letter…All of the seeds we need are being donated to get the garden up into production!
Speaking of the garden I think one of our Broccoli’s is ready to harvest!
Trent just left, but he finished setting up our house computer so we can keep you updated and keep organized! Thanks Babe…you’re so sweet!
What a great day!
Love, Rosalie Atianna
Sparkling waves are filling my eyes
and inducing memories of my youth
of family vacations to the South.
Florida, North Carolina, Lake Erie
and more. Places I’ve been and will
never forget. Thank you Dad and thank
you Mom for taking me there. Now I
think that seeing more places is key
to life and all that encourages Harmony.
Looking out over the horizon through this window
facing west I see a distant island.
Only shows her face to me every other day or three.
Keeps me guessing whats there to see.
Closer though three feet or four to my right is a
fire burning on the floor.
Just as curious but in another way always different
no matter the day.
I can only imagine what the gods decided to throw
in, to the future guaranteed to make me grin.
Be it a flock of Pelicans delicately gliding
through the wind between me and that island.
Or a flame to heat my healing mind and promote
a sense of well being in the end.
Kelly Collins
Thanks Matt for the typewriter you put between our West Facing window and the wood burning fire place. It invokes a strong creative flow of energy from my mind and fingers. Feels great to use a tool which requires no electricity other than that which is in my mind and body.
Happy New Year and welcome back for more Kitchen Table Talks, the monthly conversation series about the American food system. Many thanks to all of you who participated in our discussions in 2009 and we look forward to a fruitful and inspiring year of exchanging knowledge and ideas and building community with you. We’re excited to kick off 2010 with a conversation on Urban Homesteading on Tuesday, January 19 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at our new location in San Francisco ’s Mission district at Viracocha at 998 Valencia St. @ 21st St .
As the good food movement grows and urban farming heroes like Growing Power’s Will Allen and Oakland’s own Novella Carpenter pave the way, we will explore the surge towards City self-sufficiency, including growing and preserving your own food; raising chickens and goats; keeping bees and worms; composting, installing greywater and rainwater catchment systems; and a whole host of other DIY activities.
Please join us for a rousing discussion with a few outstanding local urban homesteaders who will share their experiences, insights, and ideas:
Kevin Bayuk is an activated advocate for ecotopian living, who’s 3,000 sq. ft. backyard in the Haight is home to some 300 species of fruits and vegetables, ducks, worms, and greywater and composting systems. Kevin serves on the Board of Directors for the Urban Alliance for Sustainability, and teaches with the Urban Permaculture Institute, Urban Permaculture Guild, and UC Berkeley Extension and Earth Activist Training.
Heidi Kooy is a former anthropologist turned small business owner. Her City farming adventures are detailed in her blog, Itty Bitty Farm in the City. She gardens, cooks, cans, preserves, and tends to her collection of small livestock, including chickens and goats in her 1,000 sq. ft. backyard in the Excelsior.
Davin Wentworth-Thrasher is a San Francisco native and co-founder of the Ecology Center of San Francisco, a grassroots non-profit that cultivates community through designing and building experiential, ecological education spaces in SF schools and community gardens. Davin leads workshops on ecological gardening, urban homesteading, natural building, appropriate technology and more. Baking bread, making cheese, butter, and yogurt, caring for ducks, chickens, and honeybees, and foraging for uncultivated foods are a weekly passion for him.
In 2008, Davin experimented with a low consumption lifestyle by living in a tent in his 1250 sq. ft. backyard in the Sunset; using rocket stoves and solar ovens; consuming less than five gallons of water a day; and relying on an outdoor shower, greywater system, and a composting toilet to save and reuse water.
We’re also excited to announce our new, permanent location at Viracocha, a new antique store/art gallery/performance, educational, and community space. We are extremely grateful to Jonathan Siegel for his support of KTT and we know that many of you will appreciate the convenient Mission location.
Kitchen Table Talks is a joint venture of CivilEats and 18 Reasons, a non-profit that promotes conversation between its San Francisco Mission neighborhood and the people who feed them. Space is limited, so please RSVP to ktt@civileats.com or leave a message at 925.785.0713. A $10 suggested donation is requested at the door, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Sustainable food and refreshments will be provided, courtesy of Bi-Rite Market and Shoe Shine Wines.

Well, it’s a gray and rainy day, maybe that’s why our guests are taking their time to come over.. it’s hard to leave the house
Kelly and Matt are gone to our neighbor Loretta to pick up windows and irrigation supply that she is donating to the Arc. With the windows we will build a green house!
I’m uploading photos for you all to see where we at, what we do and the amazing transformation that the Arc is going through!
It’s warm and cozy here by the fire place, the music feeds our souls and we are about to start a Puer tea session to worm up our insides and to activate our minds with conversation.
Yeay winter~
PS- the sun just came out for a minute between the heavy clouds to say hello- what an amazing day!
There has been much working going on around the evolving design of the property. We are preparing the land and the home for the shift that has already begun.
{M}{A}{T}{T}{H}{E}{W}
This morning, Merav and I went for a lovely walk with the dogs (Arnold & Willis). We visited Cafe Lucca and the sea side cliff meditation spot! After the walk Kelly and I used the soil from the property to plant the grafted fruit trees (2x apple, pear, cherry, peach). Soon there after I created a large fire to warm the space to our guests that should be arriving shortly. I am working hard to refine the blueprint for the property for the upcoming week of work. This coming week we will be working on the foundation for the multi-purpose platform (meditation, yoga, painting, hugging!); additionally, we will be working to make the pathways around the property more distinct, and create a space for the new olive tree coming into the ARC today.
Signing off only to return again.

Welcome to the ARC!
There is nothing more special
than a meal from the garden
with friends by the fire.
Without any worries I carry
onward like the waves on the
beach I can see from
the yard.
Hawks turning overhead.
Cherry Sunbeam reaching from horizons bosum.
Steam swirling from my teacup
in the sea of emotions
its easy to get carried away…
I remember to use my smile
to feel good
and to accept
joy when its shows
up in my heart.
Fire burning strong.
Heat from the space in
which we dwell. Never keeps me waiting long.
